Geo-environmental Senior Consultant - Leeds

We are currently seeking an ambitious and motivated Geo-environmental Senior Consultant to join our growing Geo-environmental team based in our Leeds office. The successful applicant will have 5+ years' of experience, and would be responsible for the project management of a range of geo-environmental projects, mentoring junior staff, project financial and commercial management and client care.

This opportunity would suit a highly organised, motivated and enthusiastic professional with proven track record in a broad range of core geo-environmental skills with experience in the completion and management of geo-environmental projects from inception, through design and delivery.

Ideally the candidate will have a Master’s degree in a geo-environmental related discipline and be Chartered (or progressing towards Chartership) with a relevant professional institution. The successful candidate will be enthusiastic, confident, self-motivated and dynamic with excellent verbal and written communication ability.

Experience:

Successful candidates will be able to demonstrate good experience of the following:

  • Thorough understanding of the UK contaminated land regulatory framework.
  • Report writing, including Preliminary Risk Assessments (desk studies) and Site Investigation interpretative reports.  Some experience in the production of Remediation Strategies, Detailed Quantitative Risk Assessment (DQRA) and / or Verification Reports would be preferable.
  • Review and QA checking of colleagues’ reports and overseeing issue to Clients.
  • Writing and issuing fee proposals.
  • Client management, business development experience and enthusiasm beneficial.
  • Managing and supervising geo-environmental investigations including soil and rock logging, soil and groundwater sampling and in situ testing.
  • Experience in managing, mentoring and encouraging less experienced members of a geo-environmental project team.
  • Clear appreciation of the ground engineering aspects of development projects, including coal mining issues.
  • Ability to deliver projects on time and within budget.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor degree in relevant subject and preferably a secondary qualification i.e. MSc.
  • Demonstration of equivalent qualification or experience.
  • Desirable to be a Member of Professional Body preferably working towards Chartered status.

Geo-environmental Consultant / Senior Consultant - Lincoln or Nottingham (GSOU006)

Opportunity for a suitably experienced (3+ years) Geotechnical or Geo-Environmental specialist to join our growing multi-disciplinary environmental consultancy. Based either in the Lincoln or Nottingham offices, the role will involve delivering geo-environmental solutions and advisory services on projects within the property, industrial and construction sectors across the UK and potentially Europe.

Experience:

  • An effective track record of managing the practical technical and financial aspects relating to developing proposals for the completion of projects and delivering projects.
  • Suitable experience of site supervision of investigation works to either complete or direct others in the completion of. 
  • To demonstrate the ability to design conceptual models to understand geological/environmental conditions in advance of ground investigation, including the assessment of risks from mine workings, risks from potential contamination sources, review of viable foundation solutions and constraints to development.
  • To demonstrate the ability to prepare logs compliant to BS5930 and the associated use of Holebase (or similar) soil logging software.
  • To demonstrate a working knowledge of geo-environmental investigation, sampling and in-situ testing.
  • To demonstrate a working knowledge of appropriate environmental and geotechnical laboratory tests, their scheduling and interpretation. 
  • A working knowledge of the design of conceptual models/ theoretical thought. To demonstrate a working knowledge of appropriate design methods for shallow foundations (bearing capacity and settlement analysis), and ideally knowledge of appropriate design methods for piles, retaining walls, earthworks, pavements, geotechnical structure (e.g. reinforced earth, soil nailed slopes), ground improvement and slope stability.
  • Knowledge of analytical skills using computer software and technical guidance documents for the assessment of data to determine the required outcome for the project.
  • To demonstrate a working knowledge of the requirements and guidance provided by appropriate British Standards (for Earthworks, Site Investigation, Foundations, Reinforced Earth and Retaining Structures), appropriate Highways Agency Documents (for Earthworks and other geotechnical structures) and specialist guidance prepared by BRE Reports (e.g. sulphates, ground improvement, construction on fill), CIRIA Reports (e.g. Engineering properties of specific soil/rock types, pile design, dewatering).
  • To demonstrate a working knowledge of risk assessment software packages (such as P20 or Consim) to determine risks to controlled water and human health receptors and to provide remediation targets, if necessary.
  • To demonstrate a working knowledge in the interpretation of geological maps published data and site walkover information in assessing geotechnical risks (e.g. slope stability, soft ground, mining) and environmental risks (e.g. whether pollutant linkages exist) for Phase I and Phase II investigations.
  • To demonstrate a working knowledge in the technical management of investigations (e.g. recognising when ground conditions are at variance from those anticipated and require the investigation to be varied and appropriate interfacing with other disciplines and/or Client). 
  • To demonstrate an ability to write clear and concise factual reports.
  • To demonstrate a developing ability to prepare clear, concise and effective interpretative reports.
  • Sound communication and personal effectiveness skills.
  • Ability to build and maintain effective working relationships at all levels within the business, with clients, subcontractors and other third parties (regulators, statutory consultees, etc.).

Responsibilities:

  • Work as a consultant or senior consultant within a Team/Business Unit. Responsible for management, financial and technical input to projects, including provision of proposals, project planning, management of resources (office or site based) and sub-contractors, completion of appropriate scheduling of laboratory testing, site monitoring, data assessment, reporting and financial performance.
  • Engagement in direct account management and development as part of an Account Management Team.
  • To effectively communicate within a delivery team to achieve a project brief through provision of efficient and professional services.
  • With the support of an appropriate person at a Principal or Director grade provide solutions to technical problems and write technical reports.
  • To provide clear and factually correct reports that require minimal re-writing or amendment by an authorising signatory.
  • To work within and be a champion for, the company health, safety and environmental policies.
  • When requested, to provide input to Company initiatives.
  • To demonstrate an understanding of and comply with legislation, Company policies and procedures and work within agreed resources.
  • Contribute to the achievement of Company objectives through positive working relationships with colleagues throughout the Company, with clients and with suppliers.
  • To promote the Company and its services to others.
  • Undertake ongoing CPD.
  • To provide support and assistance to all staff as appropriate.
  • Lead by example and share both knowledge and experience with other team members.

Geo-environmental Graduate - Lincoln Due Diligence (GTR001)

Geo-environmental graduate needed to join Lincoln team.  The role will involve delivering environmental solutions and advisory services on projects within the property and investment sector.

Responsibilities:

  • Work within a Team/Business Unit.
  • Principal focus will be initially in relation to the delivery of geo-environmental works including ground investigations and report writing as well as Environmental Due Diligence assessments.
  • Effectively communicate and co-operate within a project team to support the achievement of a project brief through the provision of efficient and professional services.
  • With the support of a Senior or Principal to assist in providing solutions to technical problems and provide input to technical reports that require minimum re-writing or amendment by an authorising signatory.
  • Work within and be a champion for the company health, safety and environmental policies.
  • When requested, to provide input in to business initiatives.
  • Demonstrate a developing understanding of and comply with legislation, company policies and procedures and work within agreed resources.
