Delta-Simons sitting down on the job

9th February 2010

The outdoor classroom project is being managed by OnTarget Study Support Centre, one of  the Lincolnshire School Improvement Service (CfBT) learning centres in collaboration with Opportune Engineers, a training centre in carpentry and mechanical engineering for students aged between 14-16 years who have been excluded from school.

The project involves ten students designing and building some wooden seating to be placed in Lincoln’s South Common, which is in one of the most deprived wards in Lincoln.

The furniture will be built and placed on the common in Summer 2010, and is hoped to be used by other students on similar schemes, local schools, local user groups and the local community.

Delta-Simons and local Planning Consultants Lichfield Planning have both contributed funds to kick start the project and purchase all the materials needed to complete the project.

Delta-Simons has a commitment to supporting local projects, as part of their corporate social responsibility objectives, and this is the latest project supported by the Lincoln-based environmental consultancy. Other projects include, project managing works and donating funds to a sensory garden at a deprived school in Cornwall, and last year adopting Mablethorpe Beach as part of the Marine Conservation Society’s Beach Clean programme.

Staff at Delta-Simons met the students this week at On Target’s centre at Lincoln City Football Club, and visited the site where the seating will be placed on the Common. Students showcased the designs for the furniture and explained how they will take the project forward other the next few months.

Jonathan Wilson, Finance Director at Delta-Simons commented;

“It is great for Delta-Simons to get involved in projects like this which are on the doorstep, we hope that the local community will enjoy and use the seating area for many years to come.”
