Océ (UK) and Shining Earth™ launch world-first Carbon Positive Digital Printer at Digital Print World, Earls Court.
18th October 2007
Following on from the announcement of the formation of a strategic alliance between the two companies last week, Shining Earth™ and Océ UK have announced the launch of the world’s first carbon positive printer at Digital Print World, Earls Court.
Océ’s flagship VarioPrint® 6000 series printing systems are now offered under the Shining Earth™ Carbon Positive PLUS+ programme at no additional cost to the customer. Shining Earth™ has modelled the energy consumption and CO2 emissions from the product’s operational lifespan under a variety of different customer usage scenarios. For each machine purchased over the next year, 200% of the CO2 equivalent will be offset in a combination of renewable energy, methane capture and afforestation projects; going way beyond carbon neutral and setting a new industry standard.
In addition to the carbon offsetting programme, each of Océ’s VarioPrint® 6000 customers will also be entitled to receive an Environmental Stewardship Appraisal of their own business operations at no cost. Shining Earth™ will conduct the appraisals at the customer’s premises to identify opportunities to enhance the environmental performance and credentials of the company.
Ed Hudson, Marketing Manager at Océ UK comments;
“When we develop our technology, we always take the environment into account. Buyers in the graphic arts industry are very aware of the green issues and do invest in our technology on the basis that it is environmentally friendly.”
Gareth Pickles, Managing Director at Delta-Simons comments;
“This is a unique offering to the market and we are very proud to have developed this initiative in partnership with Océ UK. Whilst Océ itself has long been regarded as a leader in low energy, environmentally sympathetic printing technology, the print industry as a whole has mixed reputation for environmental stewardship. We sincerely hope this initiative marks the start of an industry wide revolution to raise the standard of environmental performance and recognise that this isn’t just ethically good business, it’s good for business too”.
