Delta-Simons Shining Earth™ Working with Gazeley on Ground Breaking Chatterley Valley Development.

1st February 2008

Delta-Simons Shining Earth™ is providing sustainability consultancy to assist the creation of one of the most environmentally friendly business parks in the world. This market leading project is being undertaken by developers Gazeley on behalf of Advantage West Midlands and Newcastle-Under-Lyme Council following a fierce competitive bid process which focused heavily on sustainable performance.

The £50 million programme to develop Chatterley Valley in Staffordshire will include cutting edge green initiatives including the development of air tight buildings that are highly thermally efficient and capable of achieving a 25% improvement over the requirements of the current Building Regulations. Energy efficient technologies such as T5 lighting, utilisation of natural light, building orientation, under floor heating, solar walls and rain water harvesting are also incorporated into the design. The building includes a novel solar cell technology integrated with the roof lighting which will minimise daytime light load as well as eliminating night time light pollution. The site also includes a micro power CHP plant providing enough extra energy to provide heat and power to 650 local homes. Kinetic plates that collect energy from vehicle movements will also be located throughout the site. All of these initiatives add up to make Chatterley Valley truly ‘Carbon Positive’.

More than half the site will be open space with extensive habitat creation incorporating a rich and diverse biodiversity blanket. Furthermore the site will be linked to a good network of public footpaths and canal towpaths allowing greater public accessibility to the amazing greenscape. An electric bus service, powered by renewable energy from site, will carry people from home to their place of work.

The Development responds directly to Gazeley’s global sustainability Goals which will be launched at the ShedS networking event at The Celtic Manor Resort in Wales on 6th February 2008. As UK Environmental Country Leader Shining Earth™ has also worked closely with Gazeley to develop its Environmental Management System (EMS) and overall country and global sustainability goals.
Shining Earth™ is delighted to be working so closely with Gazeley on this exciting and ground breaking project. We are particularly pleased that new ways of working and emerging technologies are being incorporated into the project.
