Ecology unit adds further breadth to Delta-Simons
31st October 2008
Leading environmental consultants Delta-Simons have announced the formation of a new ecology unit, based at their Lincoln head office and headed up by David Denman, who takes the new role of Principal Ecologist and Unit Manager.
European Directives, new planning guidance and existing UK statutes have all contributed to the rapid development of commercial ecology over the last decade, and businesses, particularly those involved in the acquisition, management or development of land, can now find themselves operating under extensive ecological constraints.
Delta-Simons’ new ecology unit was established in response to customer demand, as David Denman, Principal Ecologist and Unit Manager explains, “Our customers expect a level of service from us which demonstrates that we understand their business drivers and the constraints they operate under, particularly in property development.
“The purpose of the ecology unit is to provide ecological services and advice of the highest quality to our clients. Ecology is one of the most challenging issues facing any developer and the new unit will introduce a wide range of ecological services, but at the same time we will maintain our client focus and commercial awareness, qualities which are synonymous with Delta-Simons.”
The wide range of services offered by Delta-Simons’ new ecology unit will include:
-
Extended phase 1 habitat surveys
-
Protected species surveys
-
Design and implementation of protected species mitigation plans
-
Preparation and submission of licence applications to Natural England
-

-
Ecological input into landscape plans
-

Gareth Pickles, Managing Director, Delta-Simons comments, “David brings 25 years of experience, having worked for a number of highly respected consultancies in ecology, zoology and conservation, including 13 years at English Nature. With experience of developing and leading a full service ecology offering to property developers amongst his repertoire, his considerable knowledge and expertise, aligned with his commercial understanding, will be invaluable to us as we look to increase the breadth of our service offering.
“Delta-Simons’ new ecology unit is the latest significant step in our growth and we think it will add another dimension to our service offering to both existing and new customers.”
