Shining Earth™, the sustainability division of Lincoln-based environmental consultancy Delta-Simons, has been working with Lincolnshire County Council to record and offset all carbon emissions associated with travel to and from the Sustainable Schools Showcase, which took place at the EPIC centre on Wednesday 4th March.
Several hundred attendees from across the UK visited the Sustainable Schools Showcase, which was targeted at school staff, governors and parent associations. The theme for the event, which was run by Lincolnshire County Council, CfBT Education Trust, and the Lincolnshire Events Centre, was addressing sustainable issues in schools, focusing on key areas, including energy and water consumption, food and drink, building and grounds, travel and traffic and waste management.
Shining Earth™ developed a unique web site that allowed visitors to the Sustainable Schools Showcase to record the distance they travelled and the type of transportation used to and from the event. Shining Earth™ will then calculate the resulting carbon emissions and offset them via tree planting and habitat creation in the UK with The Woodland Trust and via carbon credits purchased from The CarbonNeutral Company.
Kevin Schofield, Director of Shining Earth™ says: “We are delighted to have been able to work with the Sustainable Schools Showcase team, providing our expertise to help capture and manage the offset of the carbon emissions associated with travel to and from the event.”
