Delta-Simons, the Lincoln-based Environmental Consultancy was appointed as Strategic Consultant on ‘Liverpool ONE’, the recently fully opened, award winning £1billion city centre brown-field regeneration scheme. The scheme resulted in the regeneration of more than 42 acres in the heart of Liverpool City Centre and Delta-Simons acted for the syndicated funds backing the scheme.
Made up of over 32 development sites, the masterplan behind Liverpool ONE was to deliver a large retailer-led mixed use development, complete with areas of varying character. Key retailing tenants including John Lewis, Debenhams Top Shop and other high street favourites.
“We worked extremely closely with the team behind Liverpool ONE to formulate, agree and embed environmental protocols into the overall scheme design requirements,” explains Dr Roger Griffiths, Technical Director at Delta-Simons”
“Delta-Simons’ role extended over four years and included reviewing and advising on each of the 32 development sites, thereby being able to certify that no unacceptable environmental risks remained on the development”, continues Roger.
“The breadth of our in-house expertise over the duration of the project meant that we were able to ensure that the completed development, despite its enormous scale and diversity, did not leave a legacy and any unacceptable long term environmental liability from historic contamination. This provided the necessary confidence to the funders and effectively enabled the development to proceed as intended.”
Since its completion Liverpool ONE has been lavishly praised and described as “an urban renaissance. A new agenda – a new urbanism.“
Since its formation in 1992, Delta-Simons has grown to become one of the UK’s leading environmental consultancies. With an established reputation in contaminated land and a strong commercial focus, Delta-Simons’ customers include some of the UK’s leading property developers, retailers, fund managers and asset managers and, in addition to contaminated land, its expertise covers EHS & Energy, waste management, geotechnics, drilling, ecology, sustainability, corporate responsibility and ‘green marketing’.
