Starting in 2012, nearly 10,000 people attended last year’s Cambridge Half Marathon (CHM) 2022. For the past 3 years, our company Delta-Simons has supported events organisers, OSB events, as Sustainability Partner to the CHM, providing Environmental Social Governance and sustainability benchmarking and goals for the annual event.

32 members of the Lucion Group took on the CHM 2023, in aid of chosen charity partner Alzheimer’s Research UK. Following the successful event, Isaac Mckenna, Graduate Environmental Transaction Consultant at Delta-Simons Ltd, provided insight into this year’s race.

Grad On The Ground

Hi, Grad on the Ground Isaac McKenna here!

As part of Delta-Simons sustainability partnership with the Cambridge Half Marathon, I was given the opportunity to get involved in the 2023 event which took place on Sunday 5th March. As a keen runner I jumped at the opportunity. The event itself was a fantastic experience and the support we received from the packed streets was incredible, not to mention the thrill of running through such a beautiful city. I was also delighted to see the Delta-Simons sustainability initiatives implemented throughout the event, notably the use of biodegradable cups at each of the water stations compared to plastic bottles used at other events I have been involved in. You can read more about the sustainability initiatives here.

Following the event it was amazing to see how pleased everyone was with their times, from people over the moon for smashing their PB’s and even people delighted to have finished the event, which is an almighty achievement in itself. It was also fantastic to hear that both our male and female teams finished 4th in their respective categories and as a group Delta-Simons finished a very impressive 6th out of 17 teams (just 7 seconds shy of the top 5).

The icing on the cake was the news we received in the days following the event to inform us that our fundraising efforts have raised over £2900 for Alzheimer's Research UK so far!

The event itself was just a fantastic experience and one that would not have come around for me had I not been at Delta-Simons. It’s a fantastic perk of a job I am thoroughly enjoying and I for one cannot wait to get involved in any future events that come my way as I progress throughout my career!

More About My Role As A Graduate

I have been working for Delta-Simons Ltd in the Environmental Transaction Services team for over a year now producing Phase I Environmental Assessments for our corporate clients. Over the past couple of months, I have also been ‘adding more strings to my bow’ by regularly conducting effluent sampling for a Site in North Wales and assisting the Water Services Team by producing Flood Risk Assessments when required.
