Geotechnical & Contaminated Land Consultants - various school developments

Appointed by Norfolk County Council (NCC) to carry out initial geotechnical and contaminated land assessments for a collection of sites for the bidding of the design and construction of several new schools across Norfolk.

Purpose

Delta-Simons was appointed by Norfolk County Council (NCC) to carry out initial geotechnical and contaminated land assessments for a collection of sites for inclusion in pre-tender documents issued to main contractors for the bidding of the design and construction of several new schools across Norfolk. Sites included the Kings Lynn Academy sponsored by the College of West Anglia and NCC due to start in March 2012, and a new Thetford Academy sponsored by Easton College, West Suffolk College, Wymondham College and NCC.

Outline / Scope of Works

Due to the tight timeframes, our team completed a combined geo-environmental desk study and limited intrusive investigations at the sites, and documented these in a bespoke Summary Site Investigation (SSI) report format in order to provide rapid initial assessments. The vital speed of the work necessary for NCC to complete the pre-tender documentation conflicted with the requirement that the work had to be carried out during schools hours.  This deadline was achieved.

Outcome / Client Benefits

Our team provided Norfolk County Council with a low budget solution to enable the pre-tender pack to include the necessary information associated with the current ground conditions at the proposed new education sites, and all within a very short timescale. Our team was since re-appointed to undertake further detailed investigations and to ensure that the developments are sympathetic to any geotechnical or contaminated land requirements, and to ensure that any planning requirements are duly met.
