Grads on the Ground - Maz Hahn

‘Hi Grad on the Ground, Maz Hahn here! I have been working at Delta-Simons in the Environmental Transactional Services team in Newcastle for a year and a half now, producing various environmental due diligence reports for UK Real Estate transactions. A working week typically ranges from site visits across north-east England, to Phase I Environmental Assessments and ESG Benchmarking reports. The variety of projects and site work opportunities means I have had the chance to explore a lot of northern England, including some lovely scenic spots, as photographed!

I’ve also been promoting environmental consultancy as a career path to young professionals. Senior Geoenvironmental Consultant, Emma Painter, and I recently joined the North-East Contaminated Land Early Careers Forum as steering members to encourage current environmental students and contaminated land young professionals to come together in the North East of England to share knowledge, good practice and experience, and provide networking opportunities.

In addition to this, fellow colleague and Graduate Geoenvironmental Consultant, Anna Higgins and I were invited to give a presentation to current undergrad and postgrad students at Northumbria University about Environmental Consultancy as a career path. We provided information on various work experience opportunities provided by Delta-Simons, including our commitment as a Careers Partner for Black Geographers to promote equality, diversity and inclusion across the Environmental Sector. As part of this partnership, we developed a series of booklets to support students and graduates applying for roles in the sector. We also offered two placements which recently took place at our London and Manchester offices.
